Welcome to our blog and our first entry. Here are some pictures--from Thanksgiving 2007. We are still learning the ropes.

We went to the Biltmore Estate on the day before Thanksgiving for a special Christmas tour. We showed up nice and early and were able to explore the grounds and gardens. That night we walked 1,000 miles through the gigantic mansion with a Christmas tree or two in every room. I really enjoyed a group of young flutists playing Christmas carols in the foyer. We snuck some illegal pictures of the den and a chess set belonging to Napoleon. Shhh! Don't tell...

The next day, Thanksgiving, we were able to go back and explore. We hiked around some more near the grounds. This bridge is near the pond, all man made. We also visited the stables and winery (free samples!!); we splurged and bought some white grape juice.

That Friday, we headed to Hendersonville, NC to visit the Carl Sandburg home. I wanted to buy everything in the giftshop but settled for rootabaga stories, rootabaga pigeons, the poem "Fog" in Mr. Sandburg's own handwriting, and some goat cheese. We hiked around and visited with the desendents of Mrs. Sandburg's prized goats. Dj and Carl were both born on January 6th, exactly 100 years apart. Next, we headed downtown Hendersonville for the best rueben sandwiches ever. We stayed to welcome Santa with the rest of the town and sang some carols. We both agree Herdersonville is the perfect little town. I wonder if they need a dentist....
