Space Needle

Of course it wouldn't have been a true sight seeing visit if we didn't stop at the Space Needle. We bought our tickets and walked into a normal elevator. We were the last ones in so we had to stand right by the elevator doors. As we started moving upwards, it got kind of scary--520 feet up in 43 seconds! We enjoyed the view from the top as long as we could, which was harder than it sounds due to the wind.

Somewhere over there is Vashon Island...

Pike Place Market

We were able to visit Pike Place Market not once, but twice. The first time was a weekday and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. We ate all the free samples we could find and bought some amazing baklava (second only to Turkey). While there, I ate some of the best fruit I have ever tasted-fresh, juicy, sweet, delicious. We didn't get to see anyone throwing fish, but we did find some octopus for sale.

I loved the flowers they were selling everywhere--huge, beautiful bouqets for only $10. If I lived in Seattle, I would go broke from flowers.

On Saturday, Pike Place Market was having Cheese Day, where cheese vendors from all over the west came to show off their cheese. They had mozzarella making demonstrations and free samples. Unfortunatley the place was packed! We had to fight for the few samples we were able to taste, but by then, they were kind of melting/greasey due to the sun. We did sample some French cheese that was the worst thing ever-blah!

Exploring Vashon

Vashon was such a fun island to visit. It has about 10,000 people and is 13 miles long by 8 miles wide. It is filled with farms, orchards, and Seattle commuters. The people there take great pride in what they do; the island is well taken care of and the resturants are unbeatable. We spent as much time there as we could manage, and still were unable to see everything. Some things we were able to visit, in between stuffing our faces, walking along the many beaches or parks...

...the infamous bike in tree (we asked directions from some kid walking home from school--he just jumped in our car and led us here)......Point Robinson Lighthouse......and the Historical Museum. Dj was drawn to this dental drill..

Robinwood Beach

Down the hill from the cabin, at the end of a winding path, was the beach.

We spent an afternoon looking at rocks and strange creatures. We learned what lives in the water at the aquarium, so it was neat to see things in real life. Here is a rock covered with anemones and barnacles. They are hiding and not showing their true colors during low tide.

It was fun to discover geoducks. They liked to spray us with water as we walked by. Dj tried to catch a couple, but was never fast enough.

Apparently, they can sink down in the sand pretty far. Plus they are supposed to taste really good...

There is no sand on the Puget Sound, only rocks. And not to far off, the forest.

The Last Resort

When we were thinking about going to Seattle back in January, I sent emails to a couple of cabin rentals. The Last Resort got back to me first-the very next day-and we decided it was the place. We were so lucky to stay at this place! Located on Vashon Island, a 15 minute ferry ride from Seattle, down a green and winding road, is the most relaxing spot on the planet.

We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub everyday and enjoying the sunset over the Puget Sound. Talk about an amazing view!

One day we even came back from sight seeing to find a mason jar of lilacs. It's hard to believe the city is so close. Everyone must go to this exact spot and enjoy!

And we are off...

Vashon Island and Seattle, here we come!!

Geocache in the rain

Sunday, Dj and I braved the rain and went on another geocache adventure. My boss told me about his place on the Alleghey Passage, a bike trail built from former railroad tracks. We had a beautiful drive--things are finally getting green. It was sprinkling a little, but we still enjoyed our walk very much, especially a little short cut up and over a mountain. Plus we picked up a travel coin to take with us to Seattle.
